Yes, you’ll need a valid Oregon or Washington fishing license with the right tags (Salmon, Steelhead, or Sturgeon). Don’t worry if you’re unsure which one to get—our team will walk you through exactly what you need based on the specific stretch of river we’re hitting that day.
We follow the fish to make sure you have the best day possible! Depending on the season, we’ll launch from high-action spots like Astoria (Buoy 10), the heart of Portland, or up by the Bonneville Dam. We’ll confirm the exact meeting spot before your trip so we’re right where the bite is strongest.
We’re lucky enough to fish the Columbia River year-round! If you’re looking for the “prized” Spring Chinook, join our guides between March and May. For non-stop action, the Summer Steelhead show up in June and July, followed by our massive Fall Salmon runs from August through October. If you’re after a prehistoric battle, Sturgeon fishing is a local favorite and stays popular for catch-and-release nearly all year.
We supply all the fishing gear, poles, tackle, boat and expertise you’ll need to have a great time on the water. To be prepared for your day, we recommend the following:
- Dress in layers: warm clothing that can be added or removed as the weather changes throughout the day is best.
- Rain gear: weather on the Columbia can change quickly, so a good rain jacket and rain pants are recommended.
- Lunch and beverages: please bring a sack lunch and beverages of your choice. Staying hydrated will make your trip enjoyable.
- Fishing license: be sure to have your printed Washington or Oregon fishing license for the specific species appropriate for your trip.
