Columbia River Spring Salmon Fishing Season 2021 – February 23, 2021

November 7, 2021

PORTLAND, OR – Salmon Season is set and Spring is in the air! As Winter turns to Spring in the Pacific Northwest, interest also sparks in what anglers might look forward to in the months ahead for the various Salmon fishing seasons. Perhaps the most anticipated run of the year is the Spring Chinook on the Columbia River along with its several tributaries, offering premier opportunities to fish for Salmon while making memories of a lifetime.

For Spring Salmon in 2021, anglers will be allowed to fish for hatchery Spring Chinook starting March 1 through April 4 on most of the lower Columbia River from Buoy 10 in Astoria, Oregon to Bonneville Dam in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Also, below The Dalles and upstream to the Oregon/Washington border is scheduled to be open for Salmon fishing March 15 through May 5.

The catch limit will be two hatchery Salmon or Steelhead daily, and one can be a Chinook. We will also be chasing the Salmon run up the Willamette River near Portland, Oregon. The Willamette is allowing two rods per angler for Salmon fishing through August 15. This two-rod endorsement is offered when you purchase your license Licensing Info | Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (myodfw.com)

Oregon fish count predictions are rolling in. Preliminary forecasts call for over 143,000 Spring Chinook to return in the Columbia River this year, slightly up from the forecast of 135,800 last year.

The fish story we are all excited about; an astounding Coho Salmon abundance in the ocean has been reported with numbers upwards of 1.7 million. This is the largest Oregon/Washington Coho ocean prediction in more than five years. While the run predictions are being tossed around, these numbers are promising phenomenal opportunities for anglers in the lower Columbia River.

With these optimistic Salmon run forecasts, this coming year appears to have some incredible chances to get out on the water and enjoy epic fishing with family, friends and loved ones. We have been spending the winter preparing and are looking forward to the fishing adventures to come in 2021.

The Pacific Northwest, a world-renowned tourist destination, is also a force to be reckoned with when it comes to world-class sport fishing adventures. Nothing is quite comparable to spending a day on the waters of Oregon, reeling in trophy Chinook and Coho Salmon, the prehistoric monster Sturgeon or an abundance of action-packed Walleye.
